Description
Six feet long and only 18 inches deep, the Winterthur Estate bench is the piece that solves the awkward spots: along a wall, under a window, at the foot of a daybed, or wherever seating is needed but a lounge chair would block the path. Pierced aluminum mesh panels form the curved ends, topped with finials on the rail.
## Design and Construction
The frame is premium weather-resistant powder-coated aluminum with an aluminum seat deck beneath the cushion, finished in Obsidian Black. The decorative work is the point here: each curved end carries a pierced aluminum mesh panel, and aluminum finials cap the top rail, details drawn from the architectural and decorative arts vocabulary the Winterthur Estate collection is built on. Because the ends are open mesh rather than solid, a 72 inch bench stays visually light in a room.
## Comfort and Seating
The cushioned seat runs 70 inches wide by 18 inches deep at a 22 inch height, with the arm at 32 inches. Eighteen inches of depth is bench geometry rather than lounge geometry: you sit upright, feet flat, comfortable for a meal or a conversation and easy to leave. The 22 inch seat height is slightly taller than most outdoor seating, which makes it a natural pull-up seat at a cocktail table. Three adults fit across, and the tall 32 inch arms give the people at either end something to lean on.
